The Last Issue of Indie Shaman – The End of an Era.

The cover of the final issue of Indie Shaman number 64.

April 2025 will see issue number 64 of the magazine Indie Shaman published by June Kent, the last physical issue of this beloved, highly regarded and influential magazine. I have written for this fine publication for quite some time now and wish to say a few things about this wonderful magazine, which has consistently and without fail supported, nurtured and developed the aims and ethics which I personally stand by and respect. In her message regarding the closure of the physical magazine June stated; “I have taken this decision because of my wish to fully retire when Si (my husband) does, as well as because of my own health (arthritis in the hands can make typing rather painful!). We did consider ‘passing it on’ – and we have had offers in the past – but the ethos of Indie Shaman has always been of primary importance. What we want to do for the future is make all the articles and information available on the new Indie Shaman WordPress website so this will become an online ‘magazine’ free for everyone to read. So I’m not sure if ‘fully retire’ is quite the right term but at least there will be no deadlines!” What are the aims and ethics of Indie Shaman? The list below will refresh memories:

1. To enable all those who feel drawn to follow a shamanic path to access support and information, including for personal and spiritual development, as well as for the development of the practice of shamanism.

2. To support and encourage an ethical commitment to shamanism among shaman and shamanic practitioners.

3. To encourage respect for the self and for our communities.

4. To honour and encourage the honour of our ancestors and our descendants, both of blood and spirit.

5. To encourage the active participation of individuals and communities in taking care of the natural world and the land.

6. To respect the rights of indigenous people especially those under threat from globalisation, industrialisation or any other cause that adversely affects their right to define their own way of life.

7. To provide an inclusive service to individuals of all and any race, sex, gender, colour, nationality, ethnic or racial origin, cultural heritage, disability, sexual orientation, age or relationship status.

Preview of Trance States in Shamanism in the final issue of Indie Shaman number 64.

My article Trance States in Shamanism is my last article for the physical publication. I hope that you manage to secure for yourself a copy. Inside Issue 64 my article is with some superb and illustrious company: Nicola Smalley writes about Homecoming. Della Medicina: Wild-Foraged and Garden-Grown Remembrances by Lisa Fazio. Barry Cottrell on Freedom of Spirit: Power and the Shamanic Revival. The Way of the Seabhean by Amantha Murphy. Fotoula Adrimi writes about the Sacred Mysticism of Egypt. Eileen Mullard shares her thoughts on Authentic Caring in Non-Ordinary Reality. Passages by John ‘Crow’ MacKinnon. Eoghan Odinsson continues his series on Northern Plantlore with ‘Wormwood’; with homeopathy notes from Gloria St John and  David Sparenberg writes ‘Old “Green” Tom Bombadil: An Open Letter to Indie Friends & Readers’ and much much more besides. Goodbye old friend. Not in flesh but now in spirit we move onwards. My wholehearted blessings and mantras to June, Si and the Indie Shaman community ॐ
